FAQ

  • How does BalanceMD approach my health?
Though she is trained in Internal Medicine, Dr. Sodha does require that her patients have an active primary care physician(PCP). After she has taken a comprehensive history, she may reach out to your PCP to collaborate and let them know that she may help with medication adjustments along the way and suggest further workup that she believes may be indicated.
  • What is the process to join BalanceMD?
It's easy- let's schedule a free 20 minute consultation to get a better idea of your current state of health and areas of focus. We'll get an appointment request and will contact you to confirm the appointment. Of note- if you want a time outside the listed hours, just ask! If you decide to stick with us, we will schedule monthly visits at a time convenient to you to evaluate progress and continue our treatment plan. Dr. Sodha will be completely available to you in between visits for any issues or updates. She recommends 6 month intervals, as results can be slow and steady. A good weight management plan should offer steady but sustainable weight loss over time. This way, there is a better chance to keep the weight off. No fads or trendy diets over here!
  • What if an appointment during normal working hours doesn't fit into my schedule?
No problem! Send us an e-mail and we can open a 9 pm appointment on a Thursday if that's the time you need. We can send you a customized appointment confirmation after we find a suitable time.
  • Do you take insurance?
As of now, BalanceMD is private pay for patients aged 18 and over in California and New Jersey. You can, however, look into coverage under your HSA/FSA plans to see if they may reimburse you. The reason? Insurance is prohibitive to both patient and physician in many ways. For patients, sometimes limited access to obesity-related care and treatment, and high deductible/copay requirements can truly hinder necessary care. For physicians, the administrative burden is overwhelming. Time-consuming pre-authorizations and appeals and excessive documentation requirements often detract from the focus- providing streamlined care.
  • Do you prescribe weight loss medication?
Absolutely! If indicated and after an informed discussion, we will start a weight loss medication. Depending on your insurance and formulary, Dr. Sodha may need to go through the prior-authorization process to get the medication that is right for you. For those who are unable to obtain insurance approval, there is also an option to pay out-of-pocket.
  • Do you offer bariatric surgery?
Though she is not a bariatric surgeon, Dr. Sodha will make sure to point you in the right direction and refer you to someone appropriate if surgery is a good option for you.
